About us

In 1999, we realized that almost 70% of the children from our elementary school at the Youth With a Mission Base, were from broken families. Several of the children were forced out of their living situations, having to live with neighbors, in order to finish the year at our school. Because of these children at our school and others who had been abandoned on the streets of our city, we saw the need for a children’s shelter, a place they can call home. Thus, we began to pray and through God’s grace and faithfulness, we opened Mount Salem Children’s Shelter in March of 2002.

We provide free education, with breakfast and lunch included, from preschool to grade four, for around 100 students. We also provide recreational activities and hope to have the resources to teach skills such as Vegetable Garden Tending, Sewing, Basic Computer Literacy, Arts & Crafts and Music & Dance, in the near future.

Our vision is to promote the well-being of the children in Manaus through a facility that offers housing, education, spiritual development and recreation.
